ERC allocations on the rise

There are signs this may be bumper year for Norwegian research.

“A goal of ten grants to Norwegian-led projects in this funding round for Starting and Consolidator Grants may still be reached,” says Per Ivar Høvring, National Contact Point (NCP) for the ERC at the Research Council of Norway. The current record is seven projects.

More proposals reach step two of the evaluation process

“The number of Norwegian grant applications advancing to step two of the ERC peer review evaluation process is also rising. This is a clear indication that Norwegian applicants are well qualified to compete for the popular ERC funding. We would like to see the number of applications submitted grow even more,” Mr Høvring adds.

The three Norwegian applicants already awarded funding this year are Ann-Cecilie Larsen from the Department of Physics at the University of Oslo, Nele Meckler from the Department of Earth Science at the University of Bergen and Simen Kvaal from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oslo.

Help for ERC applicants from the Research Council

Upcoming opportunities for talented researchers wishing to apply for an ERC grant:

  • ERC Starting Grant:  Application deadline 3 February 2015
  • ERC Consolidator Grant: Application deadline 12 March 2015

Researchers who have built up a strong career over several years will be able to apply later in the year:

  • ERC Advanced Grant: Application deadline 2 June 2015

“These are dates worth noting for Norwegian researchers whose CVs display a good scientific production record. ERC grants are within reach for those who have good projects and can prepare a good grant application. The Research Council can contribute financial support in connection with application preparation and offer advice on how to write a competitive application,” states Per Ivar Høvring.
