Entra to build the world's most secure data center

Norwegian property developer Entra Eiendom is planning to build one of the world's most secure, eco-friendly and energy and cost-effective datacenters in Norway.

The datacenter is being developed in cooperation with Hewlett-Packard Norway.

“The Greenfield Datacenter will employ newly-developed technological solutions to contribute to a major reduction of costs for the operation of servers, reduce space requirements and ensure greatly reduced energy consumption in comparison with current dispersed datacenters,” says Kyrre Olaf Johansen, CEO of Entra Eiendom.

Entra says the planned Greenfield Datacenter will have significantly lower energy consumption than current datacenters. Among other things, this will be achieved through the use of advanced and recently developed applications of air cooling. In addition, there are plans to recycle a further 50 per cent of the energy in the form of heat. This may be used for heating by local industry. The datacenter will have maximum security concerning data processing and storage, and will ensure rationalization and economies of scale within datacenter operation.

In total the plan is that the datacenter will cover more than 30,000 sqm with an energy supply of more than 60 Mw. It will be built in stages, according to demand in the market. Initially, approximately 8,000 sqm will be built in four structures. According to plan, the first building stage of the Greenfield Datacenter will be completed in 2014 in Fet municipality in Akershus County.

The location in eastern Norway ensures cost-effective and eco-friendly operation in terms of logistics, good access to expertise, transport and waste handling. The selected location is less than 30 kilometers from the centre of Oslo.
