Energy Efficiency Gains by Norwegian Industry

While the production of metals and chemicals has increased by 52 percent and 30 percent respectively since 1986, electricity consumption by the producers has grown only 12 percent, according to the Federation of Norwegian Process Industries. Almost all the energy used by industry and households in Norway is generated in hydropower plants. While energy consumption has risen steadily, most of the additional demand can be traced to households and service-oriented businesses.
