Educational game captures technology prize

Kahoot! – a project with funding from the Research Council of Norway – has emerged as the winner of the “Technological achievement of the year” award, bestowed by the Norwegian science magazine, Teknisk Ukeblad.

Alf Inge Wang is Norway’s only professor in games technology and the main driver behind Kahoot!. He was recently awarded the prize in recognition of his work in games-based learning and the Kahoot! educational game, in particular.

Kahoot! makes it possible to present classroom content in a novel way, integrating games-based learning, a simple, user-friendly interface and mobile-device technology. The project, which received funding under the Research Council's Commercialising R&D Results (FORNY2020) programme, came out on top in competition with several large and well-known actors in Norwegian trade and industry, including Kongsberg Maritime and Lundin Petroleum.
