Democratic and Effective Governance, Planning and Public Administration (DEMOS)

The DEMOS programme (2015–2024) is a policy-oriented programme designed to expand the knowledge base for democratic and effective governance, planning and public administration. The programme will support cross-level, cross-sectoral research that provides a basis for knowledge-based policies within the public sector.

The DEMOS programme will encourage the development of highly competent research groups that participate in the international forefront in the programme’s thematic priority areas.

Four thematic priority areas are defined in the DEMOS work programme:

  1. Internationalisation, the state and local democracy
  2. Integration and sectorisation;
  3. Regions and urbanisation;
  4. Welfare state services and service providers.

The questions addressed within the individual thematic priority areas are closely interrelated. The programme is seeking research that extends across the individual areas, when this is relevant, and that addresses connections or more overarching topics and research questions that involve more than one of these areas.
