CaNoRock is official

Canada´s ambassador to Norway, Mr. John Hannaford, officially opened the CaNoRock student programme at a ceremony at Andoya Rocket Range today.

10 Year Programme
CaNoRock is a 10 year student exchange programme between universities in Canada and Norway and Andoya Rocket Range and Narom. Representatives from the partners signed an memorandum of understanding, making the CaNoRock programme a reality.

The involved organisations are: Canadian Space Agency, Norwegian Space Center, University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Saskatchewan, University of Oslo, University of Tromsø, Norwegian centre for space related education and Andoya Rocket Range.

Rocket Launch
At 10:07:00 UT, the student built sounding rocket CaNoRock-3 “Aurora Arrow” was launched, reaching an altitude of about 9 kilometers after 35 seconds. The Norwegian and Canadian students built the rocket as part of a week long course aimed to be an introduction to rocketry.

It took the students several days to build the rocket, but the entire flight was over after about 85 seconds.

The CaNoRock-programme also aims to include student projects with larger rocket configurations.
