Breakdown in oil service pay talks

 

"Unfortunatly we were unable to reach an agreement in the negotiations on the oil service agreement, says Mr Jan Hodneland, chief negotiator, OLF.

 

“We put a good offer on the table,” he says. “It was financially in line with the settlements reached in other Norwegian pay agreements this year.

   “But that was not good enough for Industry Energy. We now hope the National Mediator can help us to achieve a solution.”

   The union position on working time arrangements was particularly demanding, Hodneland explains. “This would have reduced flexibility for the companies.

   “These firms play different roles, and these call for different arrangements. We don’t want to enshrine something in an agreement on pay and conditions which reduces flexibility.”

   The two sides will meet again at the office of the National Mediator in Oslo in their search for a settlement in the oil service sector, which employs some 5 800 people.
