Aventa has completed the new automated production line for AventaSolar solar collectors

Solar energy company Aventa AS has invested in a brand new state of the art production line for its solar collectors. The production system has been produced by FILL in Austria, a leading plant manufacturer for diverse branches of industry. The new system automatizes essential parts of the production process for Aventa, reproducibly secures a high part quality level, as well as an annual capacity for 40 000 m2 solar collectors per shift. Innovation Norway has provided a loan for part of the investment.

The production line development has been a demanding process. It has taken two years from the initial design stages to completion and installation of the construction in the Holmestrand production facilities. The machine fully automatizes the most important part of the solar collector production; joining end-caps and absorbers (the solar collector’s active core). By using a contour-adapted, infra-red welding technology, based on medium-wave metal-foil emitters, the whole process is completed in about two minutes per solar collector. The production capacity will therefore dramatically increase. In one shift, a minimum of 40 000 m2 solar collectors can be produced per year. Aventa has invested considerable funds into the new production facilities. Additionally, Innovation Norway has provided a sizable loan.

”-It was necessary for us to increase the production speed and at the same time move away from manual processes and the risks of production mistakes that comes with it. By choosing to cooperate with one of the very best production line suppliers, we have achieved a very efficient production process and a guarantee that the products are always 100%”, Aventa’s company director John Rekstad says.

Production line manufacturer FILL characterizes the development of the complete application solution as pioneering work; “-Even after a few years of technological 'renaissance' in infra-red welding of plastics, repetitively joining injection-molded collection drains to large extruded absorber panels represented a considerable challenge. Although this non-contact process was initially chosen as the only feasible approach for this specific application at all, infra-red welding finally showed its capabilities and for sure contributed to an innovative manufacturing chain forAventa’sunique product”, says Jörg Vetter, materials and process specialist at FILL.
