Asking users of electronic administrative tools for their opinion

In addition, referees are being asked to let us know what they think about the Council’s electronic assessment system.The user survey is being sent out to more than 5 000 users who have submitted grant applications, project reports or taken part in application assessment in 2012. It will be sent by email from the Ipsos MMI public opinion institute on Wednesday 24 October.

World-class user friendliness

“The previous surveys we have conducted have given us a lot of excellent input for our efforts to refine and continue developing our administrative tools,” says Nina Hedlund, who heads the Research Council’s activities in this area.

“The feedback we have gotten has been very positive, but we there is still room for improvement. Our goal is to continue to have in place world-class research administrative systems that our users consider to be both effective and easy to use,” says Ms Hedlund.

System, content and form

“A lot of the questions revolve around the technical solutions for the electronic grant application, reporting and assessment processes,” says Ms Hedlund.

“But we are also interested in learning more about what users think about the content and forms within the systems, and whether they find the information provided to be easy to locate and use.”

- Do you have any examples of how the user surveys have led to concrete improvements?

“Among other things, earlier surveys made us aware of browser-related problems in connection with file uploads. And user input is also behind the solution to be launched in January that will link our system to the research information system CRIStin, so that people will not have to enter publications manually or upload a publications list in connection with their reports. What’s more, the solution whereby users can now access, reopen, edit and resubmit grant applications that have already been submitted is a direct result of feedback from users,” Ms Hedlund concludes.
