ANSAT at the GAUSS conference in Rome

The Norwegian student satellite program participated with a group of six students at the first GAUSS conference in Rome 24 to 29 January 2011. The conference had over 160 participants and about 100 different presentations.

From ANSAT, Stian Vik Mathisen presented the student satellite program and a status of the three student satellites, which is being built by students at Narvik University College, the University of Oslo and NTNU.

Three students presented their work at the Conference. PhD student Johan Tresvig presented the CUBESTAR satellite from the University of Oslo. This satellite will carry a scientific instrument, called Langmuir probe. This is a new type of plasma probe that can measure the electron density with a very high resolution.

CUBESTAR is intended to be a new concept of space weather satellite that will be able to detect any irregularities or disturbances in the atmosphere that might affect communication and navigation satellites. PhD student Tore Andre Bekkeng presented a more detailed presentation about the Langmuir probe and the results they have got from ICI-2 and ECOMA rocket launch.

Student Alf Henry H. Sauge from Narvik University College presented a method on how to safe and effectively use Flash memory on board a student satellite.
