208 grant proposals submitted for the November application deadline

The Research Council of Norway received 208 grant applications for the 26 November application deadline. A total of NOK 112 million was announced in this funding round.

The Programme for Research and Innovation in the Educational Sector (FINNUT) received 21 applications in response to the call for NOK 28 million in funding for knowledge-building projects.

Program coordinator Ane Marte Rasmussen is pleased with the level of response. “We received more applications than expected,” she states. “Applications have been submitted from institutions all over the country, and many of the universities and university colleges are taking part.”

The call for proposals under the FINNUT programme stipulated that research institutions must cooperate with relevant users in the field.

“It is a good sign that many of the project proposals incorporate an established collaboration between researchers, teacher education and teachers,” says Ms Rasmussen. “Projects range from research on digital teaching resources in early childhood education and care institutions to science teaching in schools and learning in working life.”

Funding granted for research profiling

There were 25 grant applications submitted to the Research Council’s programme for the profiling of research (PROFORSK). The programme is designed both to enhance the understanding of children, young people and the general public about the significance of research in society and to promote greater interest in research. The programme was launched in 2013 and this was its second call for proposals.

The PROFORSK programme targets not just research groups, but all other actors that can contribute to achieving the programme’s objectives. Programme coordinator Sissel Holmern is very pleased with the wide variety of applicants represented. “Applicants range from small businesses to large institutions,” she explains. “Grant proposals span a wide spectrum from film productions and exhibitions to games and apps.”

Most of the grant proposals are oriented towards the natural sciences. Ms Holmern would like to see more social sciences projects in the next funding round.
