Research Funding for Agriculture and the Food Industry (MATFONDAVTALE)

The general principles guiding the Research Funding for Agriculture and the Food Industry (Foundation for Research Levy on Agricultural Products (FFL) and the Agricultural Agreement Research Fund (JA)) involve follow-up of the agricultural policy objectives set out in the white paper on agricultural and food policy (Meld. St. 9 (2011-2012) Landbruks- og matpolitikken – Velkommen til bords). Proposition 127 S (2014–2015) to the Storting regarding the 2015 agricultural agreement lays down guidelines for use of the Agricultural Agreement Research Fund of Norway in 2016. Please also refer to the agricultural agreement negotiated in 2016 with guidelines for use of this fund in 2017.

The Foundation for Research Levy on Agricultural Products (FFL) was established pursuant to the Act relating to research duties on agricultural products to ensure the economic basis for research related to agricultural products. The FFL’s funds come from research duties levied on Norwegian-produced and imported agricultural products. The board takes decisions on the basis of its own regulations.

The Agricultural Agreement Research Fund (JA) is intended to help to meet the needs of the parties to the agreement (the State through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Norwegian Farmers’ Union, and the Norwegian Farmers’ and Smallholders’ Union) for research and development. The board takes decisions on the basis of its own guidelines.

There is close cooperation between the Research Funding for Agriculture and the Food Industry and the BIONÆR programme. Funding for Innovation Projects for the Industrial Sector will be announced as a joint call for proposals via the BIONÆR webpages.
