Tine Sundtoft new Climate and Environment Minister

Tine Sundtoft comes from Lillesand in Aust-Agder County and has a Master in Business and Economics from the BI Norwegian School of Management from 1990. She was regional director of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) in Agder from 1995 to 2005, and was Vest-Agder Chief County Executive from autumn 2005.

"Climate change is one of the biggest challenges for humanity. It must be countered through national and international efforts and I’m really looking forward to taking on this job. We aim to become a low emissions society by the year 2050 and that will be no easy task," said Sundtoft.

The government wants to preserve biodiversity for future generations, and believes that this is best done through a combination of conservation and sustainable use. The incoming Climate and Environment Minister aims to work with a clear focus on preserving the diversity of Norwegian nature.

"We want to have a generational perspective on our future policies. This planet we’re going to hand over to our children must be in at least as good a condition as when we took it over from our parents. We’re fortunate to have such pure and varied nature in Norway. My goal is for everyone in Norway to have access to good nature experiences," Sundtoft added.
