Opening process for Jan Mayen – Impact assessment submitted for consultation

The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has submitted the impact assessment for petroleum activity around Jan Mayen for consultation.

For the next three months it will be possible to comment on the technical work carried out.

The impact assessment is a part of the opening process for the sea areas outside Jan Mayen. Geological mapping will also be carried out. Assuming the impact assessment provides a basis for it, the Government will submit a Storting White Paper which recommends opening the area for petroleum activity.
