Oil and gas discovery southwest of 7220/8-1 Johan Castberg

Statoil Petroleum AS, operator of production licence 532, is in the process of completing the drilling of wildcat well 7220/7-2 S.

The well was drilled about five km south of the 7220/8-1 Johan Castberg discovery in the Barents Sea and about 240 km northwest of Hammerfest.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the discovery is between three and eight million standard cubic metres (Sm3) of recoverable oil equivalents. Further delimitation of the discovery will be considered.
