Norway to align itself with strengthened restrictive measures against Russia

In response to Russia’s continued violation of international law in Ukraine, the EU introduced new restrictive measures against Russia on 12 September. As previously indicated, the Government will align itself with these measures.

‘Despite massive international pressure, Russia has not demonstrated any willingness to change its unlawful course in Ukraine. Norway will therefore introduce strengthened restrictive measures that are equivalent to those introduced by the EU on 12 September,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.

Since the start of the crisis in Ukraine, Norway has joined the EU and like-minded countries in a concerted international response to Russia’s violations of international law. The new restrictive measures will soon be incorporated into the Norwegian regulations. The Storting (Norwegian parliament) has been consulted on this matter.
