NorCaP Call for carbon credits launched

In September 2013, the Norwegian government and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation NEFCO signed an agreement to procure carbon credits for Norway in the second commitment period (2013-2020) of the Kyoto Protocol. The contract regulates procurement of up to 30 million credits from UN-approved projects which face a risk of discontinuation due to the low carbon price environment.

NEFCO invites project owners and other interested parties to submit offers on future deliveries of certified emission reductions (CERs) from vulnerable projects.

Call for proposals, guidelines and documents are available here: www.norcap.org

Deadline for submission of offers is 8 January 2014.

-This launch represents the kick-off of the procurement of carbon credits for the Kyoto II period, where Norway has pledged to reduce its emissions to 84 percent of the 1990-level. This is an ambitious target which we now underpin by buying credits from stranded projects. In this way we are throwing a life jacket to a drowning market. We hope others will follow and restore confidence in the carbon market, a marked which has a potential to be one of the most effective instrument in the climate change policy, says the Norwegian Minister of Climate and the Environment, Tine Sundtoft.
