The well-oiled narratives of the Greek-Cypriot and the Turkish-Cypriot communities' official histories have left little room for dialogue or mutual understanding. A new documentary funded by the Norway Grants (EØS-midlene) raises questions that resonate with every frozen conflict on the notions of truth, history and victimhood.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

Moderator
Stein Tønnesson, peace researcher and historian. His doctoral thesis was on the international history of the Vietnamese Revolution in 1945. He is a frequent commentator in Norwegian and international media on issues of peace and conflict.

Panel
Stefanos Evripidou, chief reporter at the English-language national newspaper Cyprus Mail, where he covers, among other issues, political and diplomatic affairs. He has been invited to speak at a number of conferences on the political situation in Cyprus. He is also co-director and producer of the documentary shown during the seminar.

Rebecca Bryant, (Ph.D., University of Chicago) is an anthropologist of politics and law whose work has focused on ethnic conflict and displacement, border practices, transitional justice, and contested sovereignty on both sides of the Cyprus Green Line, as well as in Greece and Turkey.

Doors open at 18:30, and a light snack will be served. The film seminar starts at 19:00.
Free entrance! No registration necessary.

This event is part of the National Science Week (Forskningsdagene)
