Exporting Pulp and Paper

Affordable hydropower has made it possible for Norway to become a major player in the world pulp and paper markets. Approximately 90 per cent of the entire output of Norway's 30 or so pulp and paper mills is exported, the majority to the EU, Asia and the USA.

Norway's pulp producers, led by Norske Skog, supply short- and long-fibered sulphate market pulp, which is used for adding strenght to newsprint and magezione paper, and various kinds of pulp, such as chemi-thermiomechanical pulp, a key ingredient in the production of wood-free printing and writing paper, tissue paper and diapers. Norske Skog supplies some tree per cent of the world's newsprint and is the world's second largest producer of high-quality coated magazine paper. Nearly 90 per centof its production is exported.

One of Europe's leading packaging manufactures is Norway's Peterson Group, whose subsidiaries specialize in fibre based products such as kraft liner for corrugated cardboard, grease-proof paper and speciality packaging for frozen fish and other foods, including recyclable cartons for milk ans fruit juice.
