Shore based energy to offshore gas field

Energy producer Total has been granted a lisence to install the world's longest cable for alternating current to the Norwegian gas field Martin Linge.

The 170 kilometre long sub-sea cable will ensure that the field will be powered by electricity generated on shore, when the development of the field is completed.

Martin Linge will be the seventh field on the Norwegian Shelf which receives all its energy from shore-based power grids.
