Starting today, more than 50 million subscribers of Oi in Brazil will be able to browse the mobile web in a much faster, more cost-efficient way than before. A customized version of Opera Mini will be available as a free download for Oi users on their phones.
Opera Mini is one of the world’s leading mobile browsers, with more than 248 million users that keep coming back for its speed, rich feature set and cost-efficiency. Opera Mini’s page compression can save users up to 90 percent on their mobile browsing costs.
Free Facebook and Twitter
The latest version, Opera Mini 7, comes with the Smart Page — a one-page summary of all the updates from a user’s Facebook and Twitter feeds, as well as news and the ability to add other feeds to your page. As part of this partnership, Oi will offer free access to Facebook and Twitter to its users. Data used by Oi customers to access the two social-networking services from their Opera Mini browser, will not be counted toward their post-paid or pre-paid data plans. This offer will be for a limited time only.
Existing Opera Mini users on Oi’s service will automatically be upgraded to the customized version of Opera Mini, which will give users quick access to Oi’s data plans and other services. Users of Oi who haven’t yet taken Opera Mini for a spin can download the new version from m.opera.com on their devices without being charged for the download data cost.
“Opera Mini is already loved by Brazilians, and this, combined with Oi’s reach, will further strengthen Opera’s position in the market,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Designed for speed and ease of use, Opera Mini provides insanely fast browsing – up to six times faster than other browsers on both 2G and 3G networks.”
